Everything
You Want To Know.

No question is a dumb question. Here are the ones we get most often — answered honestly.

Is this like CrossFit or F45?
+
No — and that distinction matters. CrossFit and F45 use random daily workouts. EP runs structured strength and conditioning cycles with progressive overload built in. Every session connects to a bigger plan. You're not just working hard — you're building toward something measurable. The result is better long-term progress and far fewer injuries.
Who is EP for?
+
Anyone who wants to get stronger, look better and perform better — and is willing to do the work. We have complete beginners who've never set foot in a gym, and we have competitive athletes using EP for their S&C base. The programming is scalable for every level. The culture is welcoming for everyone. There's no right body type, no minimum fitness level, no prerequisites.
Where are you located and is there parking?
+
We're at 205a Wordsworth Street, Christchurch CBD. Street parking is available on Wordsworth Street and the surrounding streets. Easy to get to from the city centre, easy to get in and out.
Do you have showers?
+
Yes. Hot showers on site. This is especially relevant for EP Lunch Train — our 30-minute lunchtime class is designed specifically so you can train, shower and be back at your desk inside an hour. No excuses about not having time.
What's the difference between EP Train, EP Strong, EP Engine and EP Lunch Train?
+
EP Train is the flagship high-impact functional training class on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. EP Strong is the low-impact strength/aesthetics class on Tuesday and Thursday at 5:30pm and 7:00pm. EP Engine is the Tuesday/Thursday 6:15pm aerobic capacity and mixed-modal conditioning class. EP Lunch Train is the shorter lunchtime version of the EP Train stimulus.
What does "structured cycles" actually mean?
+
It means your training isn't random. Each training block runs for a set number of weeks with a clear purpose — building a strength base, developing conditioning, peaking intensity. The weights and volumes are progressively increased week by week. At the end of each block, you test against where you started. You can see exactly how much you've improved. It's the difference between aimless fitness and actually going somewhere.
How fit do I need to be to start?
+
Not at all fit. Seriously — every movement in every class is scalable. If you can't do a pull-up, we use a band or a ring row. If the weight on the bar is too heavy, we reduce it. Your coach won't let you do something you're not ready for. The only requirement is that you show up.
I have an injury — can I still train?
+
In many cases, yes — and this is where EP is different. Chris has extensive experience in injury rehabilitation and understands how to modify training around injuries. For significant injuries, Personal Training with Chris is the best path — he can build a program specifically around your rehabilitation. Get in touch and have a conversation before writing yourself off.
What is the membership notice period?
+
Adult memberships and Jr.EP memberships require 6 weeks notice to leave. Personal training is separate. We keep the terms clear upfront so there are no surprises.
What is EP 360 Coaching and who is it for?
+
The EP 360 Coaching ($145/wk) combines your full EP Train membership with one weekly 1-on-1 session with Chris. It's designed for people who want the community and variety of group training, but also need personal coaching to develop confidence, build specific skills, or work through individual goals alongside their group classes. Members also get a discounted PT rate of $80/session vs the casual rate of $95.
How does the mate discount work?
+
Sign up with a friend at the same time and you both get 20% off your first month's membership. Mention your mate's name in the trial form and we'll sort the rest. Both of you need to be new members joining together. Already a member? Ask us about our in-house referral program — we look after our existing community too.
How does billing work?
+
Memberships are billed weekly by direct debit from the day you join. No joining fee, no hidden costs. Your 7-day trial is completely free — billing only starts when you decide to become a member.
What age is Jr.EP for?
+
Ages 7 to 15. Classes run Monday, Wednesday and Friday at 4:45pm. We cater for all levels — complete beginners through to competitive athletes. The program is designed to grow with each athlete over time.
What actually happens in a Jr.EP class?
+
Every session focuses on fundamental movement patterns — squatting, hinging, pushing, pulling, carrying — the building blocks of every sport and physical activity. Sessions are age-appropriate, challenging but fun, and always coach-led. We also develop athleticism — speed, coordination, power — alongside the foundational fitness that transfers into whatever sport your child plays.
My child has no sports background — is that okay?
+
Completely fine — and honestly, the earlier they start building foundations the better. Kids with no background often progress faster because there are no bad habits to unlearn. We start from scratch with every athlete and build properly.
Can I follow Jr.EP progress online?
+
Yes — follow @jreadenprojectfitness on Instagram for a dedicated window into the Jr.EP program. Training highlights, athlete milestones, tips for parents and more. It's its own community separate from the main EP account.
What do I need to bring?
+
Comfortable training clothes, clean training shoes (cross-trainers work well — not running shoes with thick soles), a water bottle, and a towel if you plan to shower. That's it. We have everything else.
Will I know anyone? What if I don't fit in?
+
Almost every member walked in not knowing anyone. The culture at EP means that won't last long. Your coach will introduce you, other members will talk to you — it's genuinely one of the friendliest training environments in Christchurch. Nobody here is too cool to say hello. And Beauden will definitely say hello.
I'm nervous about starting — is that normal?
+
100% normal. Almost everyone is nervous before their first session. The best thing we can tell you is that the nerves disappear after about 10 minutes of warming up. You'll be too focused on training to be self-conscious — and you'll leave feeling better than when you walked in. That's a guarantee.
What happens after my free trial?
+
No hard sell, no pressure. At the end of your 7 days, if EP is your place, we'll set you up on a membership. If you're not sure, you can talk to Chris or any of the coaches. Most people know by their third session — but take the full week. It's yours.
